About This Video

In this video I’m really checking myself (and maybe you too): if you own a camera but you never pick it up to actually create, do you really get to call yourself a filmmaker? Lately I’ve been so caught up in the freelance world—client work back to back—that I’ve been more of a videographer than a filmmaker. And there’s nothing wrong with that, but I started this channel to create films, tell stories, and post them for y’all whether you like them or not. What I’m realizing is the “perfect time” doesn’t exist. I’ll get an idea, start a rough draft, then my emails blow up with job inquiries and I go right back into survival mode trying to fill the schedule for a paycheck. Next thing you know, the story becomes a blur and the project dies on my computer. So I break it down into three things: (1) tell a story—write it down and take your time, (2) don’t care what people think—some will love it, some will hate it, and (3) stop overthinking and use what you have—your gear, your friends, your circle is usually more than enough. The goal is freedom to create, even while you’re building the freelance business.
