About This Video

When I first decided I wanted to be a full-time filmmaker, I wanted to be the best I could possibly be… but nobody warned me about the anxieties that come with this career. In this video I’m talking about the filmmaking anxiety no one really talks about—those insecurities, doubts, and fears that creep in, especially when you actually care about making something great. I break down how it shows up for me and what I do to conquer it instead of letting it kill the project. A huge one is documentary work. Docs come with a lot—pre-production, post-production, scheduling your subject, and then the reality that shots you planned perfectly on paper don’t always hit in real life. When I’m stressed in post because I missed a detail or didn’t get an angle I needed, I’ve learned to take a breather and step away for a week or two instead of forcing it and burning out. I also talk about the anxiety of showing your film to people for feedback—even positive feedback can sting when you’ve poured months into something. The biggest takeaway: accept it won’t be 100% perfect, move around the roadblocks, set a deadline, give yourself grace, and put the film out.
