I finally upgraded my RV from AGM batteries to lithium, and I brought my friend Joe from Bubblehead RV out to help me do it right. In this video I walk you through why I made the switch, what “amp hours” really means in real life, and why lithium is such a game changer when you’re trying to boondock without killing your battery bank. My old AGM setup was fine for years, but it was low capacity and you really only want to use about 50% of it. With lithium, you can safely use a lot more of what you paid for, and I wanted the ability to run one big battery inside the RV instead of multiple vented batteries outside. I also break down charging in plain English—shore power, converters, solar, and charge controllers—because this is where people get into trouble. Lithium needs a higher charging voltage (around the mid-14s), and older converters (like mine) may not support that. I show what we did instead: I turned off my converter at the breaker and used a dedicated lithium charger, while my solar charges through a charge controller. I also share a few tips I picked up from Will Prowse’s testing, including charging to 100% for cell balancing and being aware of BMS limitations like overcharge protection.
