I am working with Kylene from Ace RV in this second video in the tech series. We tackle two problems in a Washington tiny house: a leaking water pump and a tankless water heater that heats the bathroom but won’t keep consistent heat at the kitchen. Working alongside Kylene (certified tech), we re-configure the PEX layout, drain the tank without a low-point drain, install the new pump, and share quick tips like clockwise thread tape and strong, clean PEX crimps. One problem is solved…the other is still a mystery—come troubleshoot it with me! What you’ll see/learn: How we drained a system with no low-point (bucket workaround) Rebuilding a water pump layout to reduce elbows & leaks PEX crimping basics and hand-strength tips Why a tankless water heater might heat one faucet but not another (flow/pressure & distance) Next steps to try: check aerators/flow rate, long-run restrictions, accumulator/expansion options If you enjoy real-world diagnostics, hit subscribe and drop your tips below—have you had a tankless that worked at one fixture but not another? About This Video

In this video I’m back in Washington working side-by-side with my tech friend Kylen from Ace RV, and we’re doing real-world troubleshooting on a tiny house plumbing setup. The customer had two complaints: the water pump was leaking, and the tankless water heater would make the bathroom hot but couldn’t keep consistent heat at the kitchen. This is exactly the kind of job that makes you better—because you’re solving it in real time, in tight spaces, with whatever the system gives you (and tiny houses don’t follow RV standards). First, we tackled the leak. There was no low-point drain, so we used a bucket workaround to get the system drained enough to work. Then we tore out the “against-the-grain” pump layout that had too many elbows and unnecessary plumbing, reconfigured the PEX runs, and I walked through the basics of clean cuts, proper crimp placement, and why PEX crimping is not for the weak (hand strength matters). I also showed how I do thread tape—face the fitting toward me and wrap clockwise so it doesn’t unravel. We fixed the pump and confirmed no leaks, but the tankless issue is still the mystery. The kitchen flow/pressure is lower and the heater fires on/off, causing wild temperature swings. Kylen’s next steps are trying a variable-speed diaphragm pump and, if needed, adding an accumulator to stabilize flow—because tankless heaters need consistent flow to stay lit.
