About This Video

In this video I’m breaking down Schwintek slide systems and the five critical things I want every RV owner (and every inspector) to know. I literally just got back from a 3-day Lippert Level 1 tech training in Indiana, so I wanted to get this out while it’s fresh in my brain—and honestly, because there’s so much conflicting info out there that it’s hard to know what to believe. First up: floor rollers. The slide’s weight needs to be supported on the middle rollers—not on the edge components like the bearing blocks and V-rollers—because that’s how you end up with damage over time. I also share placement basics (first roller within 6 inches, then every 24–36 inches) and a quick test: those rollers should not be freely moving. Then we talk lubrication truth: silicone sprays attract dirt and debris and can gum up the rails, so if you’re going to use anything, think dry lube—and Lippert’s general recommendation is to keep it clean with water. I also cover the correct way to run the slide (hold the button 5 seconds after it stops to keep the motors synced), why slide weight limits matter (don’t overload a slide when you “convert” it to storage or an office), and how to prevent water intrusion by adding sealant along the top of the gear rack and checking it yearly.
