About This Video

In this video (part 2 with Darren from My RV Works), I get into the stuff that confuses RV owners the most: slide seals and Schwintek/Swintek slide lubrication. When I’m out doing inspections, I constantly see wiper seals tucked in with “memory,” and people assume that’s why water is getting in. Darren breaks it down clearly—wiper seals are mainly for wiping debris, while the bulb seal is what’s supposed to actually stop water (and you want about 50% compression on that bulb seal, not smashed flat). We also cut through the marketing on “special” seal products. For cleaning, Darren’s go-to is simple: Dawn dish soap and water. For keeping rubber sliding smoothly, baby powder on a sock—done. Then we tackle the big controversy: “never, ever lubricate a Schwintek.” Darren’s hands-on experience (high hundreds to low thousands of repairs) says the opposite—most failures he sees are from not lubricating. We demonstrate how much friction is there dry, and how CRC Power Lube with PTFE makes the bearing block glide with one finger. He also explains where to lube (track, drive shaft areas, rollers/gibs) and how often—think seasons and “listen/feel” like tuning a violin, not a rigid calendar.
