About This Video

Hey everyone, it’s Deb with Deb’s RV Services, and in this video I’m out in Duvall, Washington doing a real-deal RV tech work day with Kylene from Ace RV Repair. We had a stack of jobs on the list—Kwikee steps that wouldn’t extend, a water heater that would run on electric but not on propane (or at least not correctly), and prep for a skylight replacement. I filmed the process so you can see how we troubleshoot in the field, not just talk about it in theory. On the steps, we confirmed we had 12V power and that the control logic was trying to do what it should—but we still had no movement. We pulled the motor assembly and, after talking with Lippert and providing the part number, we confirmed it’s a motor/gearbox issue (broken gears inside), so that motor assembly needs to be replaced. On the water heater, we fired it up and saw a big orange flame and soot—classic bad combustion. Once we opened it up, we found the culprit: stink bugs (yes, a whole little family) in the burner area. After cleaning everything up and being careful not to disturb the igniter gap, the water heater ran fine again. Moral of the story: annual cleaning and maintenance matters, and bugs can absolutely wreck your RV appliances.
