Arizona Heat & Broken AC! Diagnosing & Replacing My RV Air Conditioner | DIY Tips + Tools 🔥 It's over 100 degrees in Arizona and my RV air conditioner broke in the middle of the night! In this video, I take you along as I troubleshoot the issue, test amp draw with a clamp meter, and replace my old Dometic Penguin AC unit with the help of my friend Scott from Every Inch RV. We go step-by-step through diagnosing the issue-testing voltage, checking amp readings, understanding whether it's the compressor or capacitor, and using a Peacemaker (plug-in amp monitor) to make sense of it all. Then it's time for roof work: removing the old AC (with rust and roof sealant pulling up), cutting foam seals, and carefully installing a new unit. You'll see: ✔️ How to test amp draw with a clamp meter ✔️ Signs of compressor failure ✔️ What tools make rooftop installs easier ✔️ Why your circuit breaker keeps tripping ✔️ The difference between capacitors and compressors ✔️ Tips for sealing and aligning a new rooftop unit ✔️ Handy DIY tools Scott made to save $ (you'll want one too!) This is a must-watch if you live the RV life and rely on rooftop A/C to survive those scorching temps. #RVRepair #RVAC #RVLife #DometicAC #RVElectrical #RooftopAC #DIYRV #RVInspector #ArizonaRVLife #LazyDazeRV #RVTech 👇 Don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe for more RV tips and maintenance how-to's! 🎁 Want to do your own basic RV inspection? 📥 Subscribe to my newsletter at http://www.debsrvservices.net and get a FREE PDF checklist to help guide your DIY pre-purchase walkthrough. 🔧 Need help or a 1-on-1 consultation? About This Video

Good morning from Arizona… and yes, it’s in the hundreds. My rooftop A/C decided to quit in the middle of the night, so I dragged you along while I figured out what was going on and what to do next. I’m a certified RV inspector and tech, but I’ll be honest—I didn’t take the air conditioner class, so this turned into a real-time learning (and sweating) session with my friend Scott from Every Inch RV. First thing I did was stop trusting “it’ll probably be fine” and start testing: I used my amp clamp on the blue wire and watched it pull way too high (12 down to 10 amps when it should’ve been around 7), which explained why my breaker kept popping. Scott also showed a super simple way to isolate the A/C load using a Peacemaker plug-in monitor—plug it in at the A/C outlet and you can see voltage and amp draw without guessing what the rest of the RV is doing. We talked through compressor vs capacitor symptoms (a bad capacitor spikes sky-high at startup; a failing compressor tends to climb and get worse as it runs). Then we got into the real fun: pulling an old Dometic Penguin off the roof, finding rust (yep… water happened at some point), fighting old sealant that was literally pulling roofing material up, and installing the new unit with the right gasket, alignment, and foam/baffle setup so you actually get good delta T. In the end, we had cold air again—and I checked temps to prove it.
