About This Video

In this video, I’m breaking down 4 big differences between doing a DIY RV inspection and hiring a certified inspector (like an NRVIA Premier). A DIY walkthrough can catch some obvious stuff—like popped breakers, battery corrosion, faucets that don’t run, or a furnace that won’t light. But the reality is: there are a lot of safety and “hidden damage” issues that you just can’t confirm without the right tools and the right process. I walk you through what I do in four critical areas: electrical, water, LP gas, and the exterior. On electrical, I’m doing a hot skin test, checking voltage and hertz across shore power/offshore, generator, inverter (under load), and verifying GFCI protection—plus opening the panel to look for heat, discoloration, and wiring problems. On water, I pressure-test on city water and pump, watch for pressure loss over time, inspect deep in cabinets and around fixtures, fill tanks to verify sensor readings, and confirm the water heater works on both electric and gas (and that the bypass is correct). For LP gas, I use a manometer leak test and verify life-safety items like CO/LP detectors. Then outside, I’m on the roof checking sealant, bubbles, slide roofs, and signs of water intrusion—plus I’m under the rig looking for leaks, loose bolts, tire issues, and slide alignment/rot concerns that most people never see.
