I’ve seen a lot of RV problems, but nothing shocked me more than a water heater that had to be completely replaced even though the owner never used it once. In this video, I’m sharing the three biggest (and most preventable) issues I ran into while I was working as an RV tech in Washington—things that turn into expensive service calls when they could’ve been handled with simple checks. First, we’re talking batteries: dead batteries, batteries not charging, disconnect switches left OFF, and inline fuses that are blown (or so old they literally crumble). I walk you through what I look for—disconnect switch location, basic voltage clues, and when it might actually be a bad converter. I also cover battery maintenance, like adding distilled water to lead acid batteries (and why AGM and lithium are different). Second, I get into appliance failures caused by bugs and debris—water heaters, furnaces, and refrigerators that won’t ignite because propane appliances attract spiders, stink bugs, dust, and soot. And finally, I explain the $20 anode rod mistake that can cost you $1,000+: if you have a Suburban tank water heater, you need to check that anode rod yearly so your tank doesn’t “eat itself.” Preventative maintenance is what saves your wallet.
