About This Video

Filming yourself when you’re by yourself can be a pain, so in this video I tested a piece of modern camera gear that’s basically built for solo creators: the Edelkrone DollyONE. It’s a fully motorized, trackless motion control system that turns your regular tripod into a camera dolly—without laying track or being limited by a slider’s fixed length. I break down what it is, who it’s for, how it sets up, and the different ways you can control it (regular tripod head, a tracking gimbal, or pairing it with Edelkrone HeadONEs for pan/tilt). I walk through the core movement modes—free form, line, point mode (I kept calling it “target mode”), and arc—and show how you can keyframe moves, loop them, and even switch targets mid-move for a whip-pan style moment. For BTS, this is where it really shines: I can get dynamic shots of myself working around the studio that look like someone else is filming me. I also talk about real-world tradeoffs: floor smoothness matters a lot (polished concrete is amazing; bumpy concrete needs Active SteadyShot plus stabilization in post), it’s surprisingly quiet, and you shouldn’t expect it to work on gravel or sand. I also touch on Edelkrone’s Tripod X Rapid and why self-leveling speed is a big deal in a busy studio setup.
