About This Video

Maybe you’re scared of losing all your photos from your phone’s gallery, or you’re worried your phone could get stolen, damaged, or reset. In this tutorial, I show you the easiest way to back up your entire photo library to Google Photos automatically, so you don’t have to upload anything manually one by one. This works on both iPhone and Android, and in the video I’m doing it on my iPhone so you can follow along step by step. I start by opening the Google Photos app and making sure it has permission to access your photo library (because if it doesn’t, nothing else matters). Then I tap my profile icon in the top-right and turn Backup on. After that, you choose your backup quality: Storage saver or Original quality. Storage saver is what I recommend for most people because it saves space and still looks great for everyday use, but if you want every detail preserved exactly as-shot, go with Original quality (just know it uses more of your Google storage). Once you confirm, backups run in the background, and you can check progress anytime—plus that little cloud check mark tells you a photo is safely backed up.
