Okay guys—today I’m restringing a Fender Mustang short scale bass that needed some love. This one was part of a house fire (a customer of mine, Tommy), so it got covered in smoke and soot. I’ve already spent time cleaning it up, but in this video I go in for a little more cleanup, then I get it ready for fresh strings and a proper tune-up feel. Most of the guitars from that collection are already cleaned, restrung, and back with the customer, but this Mustang bass was still waiting on the right set of strings. For this bass I’m using LaBella short scale, string-through-body bass strings (made in the USA), because that’s the big takeaway: you’ve gotta buy the correct short scale set, especially when it’s string-through. I show the color-coded string guide (red E, white A, blue D, etc.), how much extra I leave before cutting, and how I wind them up cleanly with my Ernie Ball Power Peg Pro. Once it’s strung up, this thing is shined up, cleaned up, and it’s a great little bass—lightweight, fast, and just plain fun to play. Buddy, have a great day… go buy a guitar.
