In this video I’m taking an old, beat-up guitar and doing the one thing I actually care about most in the shop: making it playable again. It took me a while, and it wasn’t just a quick restring. I ended up putting a shim in the neck and doing a bunch of little fixes to get it to come together right. The goal wasn’t some museum restoration—just a solid, usable guitar that you can actually sit down and play. The hardest part by far was the electronics. The output jack was completely missing, so I had to get everything resoldered and working again, then I added a new jack with a Gibson-style plate on the back. The cool part is the original pots stayed in the guitar, the three-way switch works fine, and both pickups are working. I even checked one pickup with an ohmmeter and it read around 3.4-ish, so yeah—these are very weak pickups, but I’m pretty sure that’s just how they came. I also cleaned up the headstock as best I could, hit it with a little Rust-Oleum gloss clear, and threw on some donated Wilkinson tuners from a viewer. End result: playable guitar achieved.
