Hey guys, in this video I’ve got a B.C. Rich Mockingbird acrylic on the bench for a customer restring, and yeah… this thing is an absolute beast. I go over it like I would any guitar that comes across my counter here in Mesa, AZ—quick function check, electronics check, and a look at what’s been changed. This one’s already modified with a Seymour Duncan in the bridge (looks like it could be an Invader), and everything is nice and loud and working properly. The big story is the weight. Everybody complains about it, so I grabbed my fish scale and got an official number: 11 lb 2 oz (with the strap still on). Holy moly. I’m not here to badmouth it—fret ends feel good, the guitar’s super clean, and I’m not seeing fret wear—but at over 11 pounds it’s the kind of guitar that’ll give you a backache. I talk a little about how these acrylic B.C. Rich guitars keep popping back up with newer bands, plus a rumor I heard about B.C. Rich possibly getting back up and running. For strings, I went with Ernie Ball Turbo Slinky 9.5–46, did a quick fingerboard oil (it honestly didn’t need much), tuned it up, and it played good. Then I called the customer to come grab their green acrylic wall-hanger/stage-prop… or their new favorite workout routine.
