About This Video

All right guys—on the bench today I’ve got a customer restring on a Dean Lightning Bolt, the Dimebag model. It’s an older guitar, made in India, and the strings on it were absolutely toast (missing the high E, too). First thing I did was plug it in and make sure the electronics were good—this one’s got a Seymour Duncan in it and the electronics sounded perfect. Then I got the Floyd situation under control: I blocked the trem (my trem block didn’t fit this one great, so I went with the eraser trick) and pulled the locking nut clamps so I could get the old strings off cleanly. From there it was the normal shop routine: roll the fine tuners out for adjustment room, clean and condition the fretboard with Music Nomad F-1, and wipe the body down with Guitar Juice Tonic to knock out dust and fingerprints. I threw on Elixir Nanoweb 10–46s, tuned it up, and then had to fight the bridge lifting—tightened the claw and got it sitting nice and flat. I’m not gonna lie: tens in standard on a guitar like this is a choice, and I’m not sure Dimebag would approve, but I got it playing fine. Then I took it up front, strummed on it a bit, and yeah—super shreddy, thin neck, narrow feel, and just a fun guitar to have.
