In this video I’m doing a customer re-string and quick setup on a Lace Cybercaster—one of those rare, unique guitars you don’t see every day. First thing I do is plug it in and make sure the electronics and pickups are working, and yep, the Lace Hemi pickups are alive and well. I also talk a little bit about Lace as a pickup company (Lace Sensor history and all that) and why, in my opinion, the pickup world is still basically Seymour Duncan and DiMarzio’s game to lose. From there it’s shop-mode: I check neck relief with my notched straight edge and try to snug the truss rod. It was super tight, so I’m not about to force it and strip a customer’s truss rod out—string height might stay a touch higher because of that. I clean it up with Guitar Juice Tonic, hydrate the fingerboard with Music Nomad F1 oil, throw on D’Addario XL 10–46s, then tune and intonate. While adjusting saddles I find a screw that barely had any bite, and I give my honest thoughts on the bridge placement and why these guitars didn’t really catch on. Bottom line: cool guitar, great case, but that original $2,500 price tag? In my humble opinion, it’s more like a $500 guitar.
