About This Video

I was scrolling social media and saw something that made me do a double-take: Hobby Lobby sells 3D printer filament. So I went digging on their site, looked at the lineup and pricing, and then did what I always do—tested it. Their basic PLA colors were showing up at $12.99, the “wood” jumped to $15.99, and the marble/rainbow silk options were up around the $19.99 range. Price-wise, that’s honestly excellent if you can grab it locally, especially for folks who don’t want to wait on shipping. The big rabbit hole for me was: who actually makes this stuff? The box and spool don’t really tell you much, and when I asked Hobby Lobby directly, the official answer was basically “made in China” with a copy/paste of the product page. From there I chased a few possible manufacturers (and hit dead ends), but the real question was performance—especially the wood PLA, because “wood” can sometimes just mean tan PLA. I ran temp towers (230°C down to 190°C) and a bunch of real prints on my Bambu Lab A1 and the Elegoo Centauri Carbon. The takeaway: it printed extremely well straight out of the shrink wrap, with generic PLA profiles, and I didn’t even need to dry it first. My only real complaint is the lack of tech/safety data and material details—especially for filled filaments like wood.
