One of my oldest 3D printers is back in action. In this video I repair my Ultimaker 2+ 3D printer after a frustrating heated bed error that kept stopping prints. After troubleshooting the issue, I discovered the problem was a broken heated bed cable, a common failure on older Ultimaker machines. With a replacement cable from FBRC8, I walk through the repair process step by step. We reconnect the heater and thermistor wiring, reassemble the bed, and run a test print using Orca Slicer. The result? This 13-year-old Ultimaker 2+ still prints beautifully. Even in the era of Bambu Lab, Anycubic, and high-speed CoreXY printers, there's something incredibly satisfying about keeping older machines alive and printing. If you own an Ultimaker 2 or Ultimaker 2+, this repair may help you fix a heated bed error, broken cable, or bed wiring issue and bring your printer back to life. 👇 Links Mentioned in the Video FBRC8 (Ultimaker parts, filament & 3D printers) https://fbrc8.com/ 🛒 Affiliate Links & Coupon Codes (Help Support the Channel!) About This Video

This episode is me bringing one of my oldest machines back from the dead: my Ultimaker 2+ (it started life as an Ultimaker 2, and I upgraded it). I was messing around in Orca Slicer and noticed there’s a solid Ultimaker 2+ profile, and honestly—it printed great… right up until the printer threw a heated bed error mid-print and kept stopping. After some troubleshooting, I found the real culprit: the heated bed cable had finally failed. Thirteen years is a pretty good run, and on these older Ultimakers, that bed wiring is a very common failure point. I reached out to my friends Simon and Aaron at FBRC8 (Fabricate) down in Tennessee, and they still had a replacement bed cable. In the video I walk through pulling the old cable, reconnecting the heater and thermistor wiring (thick wires for the heater, thin wires for the thermistor), and getting everything buttoned back up. I also do a little “history lesson” on Ultimaker, talk about the whole 2.85mm filament debate (it’s not dead), and then we heat the bed, re-level with a feeler gauge, and run a test print. End result: no more errors, and this ancient Ultimaker is still printing beautifully—because yes, even in the era of Bambu and high-speed CoreXY, keeping an old workhorse alive is ridiculously satisfying. Please print safe.
