⚠️ Running your Bambu Lab A1 inside an enclosure? Then you need to watch this! In this video, I show you how to add essential cooling to the A1 motherboard, something Bambu surprisingly left out on this model — unlike the A1 Mini. I walk through the full mod process, including: ✅ 3D printing a custom fan mount ✅ Using SolidWorks to design a perfect shim adapter ✅ Choosing the right 40mm 5V USB fan ✅ Step-by-step installation and cable management tips ✅ Why airflow is critical in enclosed setups 💨 This upgrade is perfect if you're printing in an enclosure for VOC control, pet safety, or better print consistency — all without risking an overheated motherboard. ⚙️ STL files and Amazon links are in the description below so you can replicate this setup easily. And yes — you can power this off a USB port. No wiring hacks needed! 💬 Drop a comment if you’ve tried this mod or built your own — and don’t forget to hit like and subscribe if you found it helpful. 📦 Parts & Links Mentioned: 🔗Bambu Lab Maker World Link https://makerworld.com/en/models/1244731-bambu-lab-a1-motherboard-cooling-fan-12v-bracket#profileId-1265936 🌀 Noctua NF-A4x20 5V, 3-Pin Premium Quiet Fan (40mm, Brown) https://amzn.to/4hHMD2j 🧩 2pcs USB to 3Pin/4Pin PWM 5V USB Fan Power Adapter Cable with Switch, USB to 3pin/4pin Fan Adapter Cable with On/Off Switch https://amzn.to/4iRwqZs 🧩USB 3.0 Extension Cable 5Ft https://amzn.to/4iRwuZc ❤ Your donations help me create great content! ❤ https://ko-fi.com/wherenerdyiscool or https://buymeacoffee.com/wherenerdyiscool 🛒 Affiliate Links that help my channel & Coupon Codes! About This Video

If you’re running a Bambu Lab A1 inside an enclosure, this is one of those “yeah… you probably need to do this” mods. In this video I walk you through adding active cooling to the A1 motherboard area—because (and this still blows my mind a little) the A1 Mini gets a motherboard fan, but the full-size A1 doesn’t. Bambu’s reasoning is that the A1 uses a heatsink contacting the aluminum profiles for heat dissipation, but once you put the printer in an enclosure, you’re stacking the deck against airflow. I show the full step-by-step: printing the MakerWorld shroud (I printed mine in PETG—VOXEL PETG-G in my case), fitting the door piece (I actually had to upscale mine to 102% to get a snug fit), and then adding a simple shim/adapter I designed in SolidWorks to eliminate the big gap behind the 40mm fan. For the fan, I used a Noctua 40mm 5V so I could power it cleanly via USB—no wiring hacks—using a USB-to-fan adapter cable with an on/off switch (and a USB extension if you need it). Big takeaway: you can’t read motherboard temps on the A1 (there’s no sensor exposed), so this is all about adding airflow “in good faith,” especially if you’re enclosing for VOC control, pet safety, and more consistent prints. Also: do a quick wire-management safety check so the cable doesn’t interfere with the gantry harness. Print safe.
