We started our Alabama adventure at NASA in Huntsville, but over the next two days we battled brutal heat with no AC, tackled a van fix Bob had wanted to do for years, and then faced an RV breakdown that nearly broke us. 🌎 CONNECT WITH US Instagram → https://www.instagram.com/vancaskeys Facebook → https://www.facebook.com/vancaskeys HUGE THANKS TO THE SPONSORS WHO KEEP US ROLLING • NOOVO Camper Vans https://www.noovolife.com/ • Etrailer - https://www.etrailer.com/vancaskeys?etam=a0065 • RV Mattress https://www.rvmattress.com/vancaskeys *SHOP & SUPPORT US* GET THE VANLIFE-ish Hoodie - https://shop.vancaskeys.com/products/vanlife-ish-hoodie MERCH STORE: https://vancaskeys-shop.fourthwall.com/ JOIN OUR CREW (Patreon): https://www.patreon.com/vancaskeys AMAZON STOREFRONT: https://www.amazon.com/shop/hillarymccaskey *AFFLIATE LINKS:* Silwy Magnetic System: https://silwy.de/vancaskeys (CODE VANCASKEYS) Harvest Hosts – Save 15% https://www.harvest-hosts.com/2FT315P/2CTPL/ Sumo Springs – https://fas.st/t/hTxECyyC Super Springs – Use code vancaskeys – https://superspringsinternational.com/?rstr=Vancaskeys&utm_source=organic-referral&utm_medium=ambassador&utm_campaign=BobMccaskey-54 FROLI Bed Systems – Use code vancaskeys15 – https://superspringsinternational.com/?rstr=Vancaskeys&utm_source=organic-referral&utm_medium=ambassador&utm_campaign=BobMccaskey-54 OUR EXACT LITHIONICS BATTERY: https://lithionics.com/product/lithionics-12v-320ah-lithium-ion-battery/ Disclaimer: Some links are affiliate links - we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. Thanks for keeping our wheels turning! 💛 📧 Business inquiries: vancaskeys@gmail.com ✅ After spending a week exploring Georgia in our RV, we experienced both the best and hardest parts of van life. In this episode, we visit a top-rated RV park, explore Blue Ridge, stop by Mercier Orchard, spend time at the Toccoa River, and hike the incredible waterfalls at Cloudland Canyon State Park. But this trip also takes a stressful turn when our RV propane system starts leaking, leaving us without heat, hot water, or a working stove. With no reservations and bad weather rolling in, we attempt our first overnight stay at a Pilot truck stop to see if free RV parking is really a good option. This is real RV life on the road as we continue our journey to visit all 50 states by van. ❤️ OUR MISSION We’re Bob and Hillary, a married couple who quit our jobs to chase a long-time dream of traveling the country in our RV. Through our journey called The Lemon Route, we’re working toward visiting all 50 states, turning breakdowns, detours, and expensive mistakes into stories, lessons, and a little lemonade along the way, all while showing what RV life really looks like for everyday people. About This Video

We kicked off our Alabama leg in Huntsville at NASA, and for once it felt like one of those “this is too good to be true” road days. Bob has wanted to see the Saturn V rocket since he was a kid (and honestly, the scale of that thing is wild), and I had my own questions like… why is NASA in Alabama? Turns out Huntsville is “Rocket City” because a huge chunk of the moon-rocket story was designed right there. We wandered through rockets, shuttles, the SR-71 Blackbird, and even found that freeze-dried astronaut ice cream Bob remembered being way better as a kid. Then Alabama humbled us fast. We tried boondocking at a Cracker Barrel in brutal humidity with the windows open, and it was the worst night’s sleep—random loudspeaker announcements, trash trucks, and a grease trap vac truck at the crack of dawn. After breakfast, Bob finally tackled a van fix that’s been haunting us for years: the license plate light alarm he caused when installing the Aluminus tire carrier. He rewired it back to stock (and yes, cut a $90 harness in half) and finally got rid of that dash warning. And then the real meltdown: we tried to run the AC in the heat and suddenly lost basically everything—no 12V, no water pump, solar not charging. We hit our limit, bought a multimeter, found the main Lithionics battery fuse blown, and learned the hard truth: the fuse was undersized (150A where the diagram calls for 250A). After a 140-mile sprint to West Marine for an MRBF fuse, we were back up and running—exhausted, but grateful.
