About This Video

Last week we stealth camped behind a casino in Mississippi (shockingly great), and then we rolled into Louisiana for our very first New Orleans day. And yeah… it was a lot. Between the busy-ness, the noise, and the smell intensity, my senses were being accosted—like a weird mashup of New York congestion, Vegas chaos, and Nashville party energy. We did the thing though: walked the French Quarter, waited in the famous beignet line, and confirmed that beignets are absolutely worth the hype (and somehow still cheap). But when it hit 80° with 63% humidity, we realized sleeping in a random city lot was not happening. So we pivoted to one of our go-to free-ish resets: Cracker Barrel. That’s where Louisiana really introduced itself—storm bands, a tornado watch, and a surprise window leak that basically turned into an indoor water feature at 1 a.m. We shoved towels everywhere, turned the van to dodge the wind, and then woke up to a totally different world: 46° and freezing, with our cold-weather gear buried under the van. From there we headed to Avery Island for the Tabasco factory tour, where the smell was so strong it hit you right in the throat (and there’s literally a button to smell it more… why). We wrapped up at a KOA with no propane and temps headed for 32°, tested our battery/AC strategy, cooked real food with a new Instant Pot setup, and pulled our next Lemon Route challenge: find a town with 1,000 people or less.
