After getting our van back on track from a blown fuse/no-power meltdown on the Alabama Gulf Coast, we rolled into Mississippi (State #14) and decided to try something we’d never done before: stealth-camping behind a casino in Biloxi. We parked at Harrah’s with a bunch of other RVs, which made us feel a lot more “nestled in”… but the reviews were all over the place (everything from “nice quiet gravel lot” to “security screamed no sleeping and shined a flashlight in my bedroom at 1:00 AM”). So yeah—this was one of those “we’ll see if we get the dreaded knock” kind of nights. Before we hunkered down, we explored the beach, checked out Margaritaville (Santa Monica Pier meets Jimmy Buffett meets Vegas), grabbed food, and then took our chances. Good news: no knock. Even better, we went back for night two and slept great—quiet, free, and honestly better than a Walmart. In between, we knocked out a work day by the water, did a couple van projects (because I can’t not), helped a stranger with our first aid kit, and ended the episode with a classic vanlife-ish moment: rain + wind = our skylight leaking again. Mississippi was a win… until it tried to drown us on the way out.
