For the next 24 hours, we moved into the Orbita by Tiny Planet—an AWD Mercedes Sprinter expedition van that literally just finished a documented round-the-world run (25,000 miles across three continents). Our normal Class B, Mr. Lemon, is parked at an airport in Florida… possibly broken… so while we were back in Arizona for our son’s wedding, we got handed the keys to what Tiny Planet calls a five-star hotel on wheels. And based on our track record, that’s either really exciting or slightly terrifying. We boondocked in rough, rutted Sedona dirt, explored town without feeling “too big,” and then took the Orbita off-road after airing down the tires and softening the suspension. Inside, we tested real livability: PB&J lunch in the dining-room-slash-bedroom, a legit mini dishwasher (two gallons per cycle), a hidden dry-flush toilet inside the shower, heated floors via Aqua Hot, filtered water at the sink, and a security/camera setup that you can monitor remotely with an app. We wrapped it with dinner, rooftop seating, a timed bed-make challenge, and a rainy-morning exit—aired down tires and all—before airing back up to highway pressure. Bottom line: it’s roomy, capable, and very well built… and yeah, you’ll pay for it (around $350K depending on options).
