We’ve been in Florida for almost three weeks after kicking off 2026 in the Florida Keys, and before we check State #11 off our 50-state goal, we did the thing everyone told us to do: book Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground—despite hearing “newbies should avoid this campground.” Plot twist: we’re the newbies. We’ve never been to Fort Wilderness and somehow we’ve never been to Disney World either, so this was a full-on first-timer test from the moment we rolled up. I walk you through what the arrival/check-in actually looks like (it’s a whole process), how we navigated the signs and “green light” lanes, and what it felt like being handed that first-visit badge like, yup… we’re officially those people. We stayed on a Premium Full Hookup RV site, so the RV part was straightforward—electric, water, sewer, concrete pad—while the real challenge was simply getting oriented because Fort Wilderness is big and busy (and yes, the golf carts are everywhere for a reason). We also keep it real with the unglamorous vanlife-ish stuff: figuring out our hookup order, second-guessing ourselves, and dealing with a very overdue dump after about ten days off-grid. And because we’re us, we keep the “lemon” challenge rolling—because apparently we can’t just go to the happiest place on earth without adding chaos.
