About This Video

What’s up, YouTube—this trip I’m taking you along for our first time trailer camping at Santa Cruz Redwood RV Resort in our brand new 26’ Jayco SLX, and I’m doing it with my brand new 2025 Chevy 2500 Trail Boss. This is only my second camping trip with the trailer and my second time towing ever, so I’m sharing the real numbers, what the drive felt like, and what I’m learning as I go. I also give you a quick look at the truck tech (the camera angles are honestly insane), plus how I’m using the trailer profile to track towing-only miles and fuel economy. On the way up (about 140 miles), I’m updating MPG as we go—big rigs, speed changes, and hills all make a difference. I ended up around 8.1 MPG getting there, and on the way back I saw about 8.3 MPG, with my total towing average sitting around 8.2 MPG over 578 miles so far. Once we’re checked in, I walk you through the resort vibe (tons of shade under the redwoods), talk about which sites are easiest if you’re not super experienced backing up (that’s me), and show our simple campsite setup. I also do a quick trailer walkthrough—master bed, kitchen, bunk beds, and the bathroom/shower (I’m 6’1 and I fit fine). We do pizza night in town, then I’m cooking the rest of the trip—carne asada tacos, then teriyaki chicken and shrimp shish kebabs—because you already know we cook good on these camping trips.
