About This Video

What’s up YouTube — this video is our very first camping trip in our brand new 2025 Jayco SLX (26ft) travel trailer, and it’s also my first real towing experience ever. We headed up to Sequoia RV Ranch near Three Rivers (about a 3 hour drive for us), and I brought you along for the drive, the setup, and my early impressions towing with my new 2025 Chevy 2500HD Trail Boss LTZ Z71 with the 6.6L gas V8. I’m coming from a Tacoma, so yeah… the space difference is insane, and I’m still getting used to how big this truck feels on tighter mountain roads and cutbacks. I tracked MPG the whole way because that’s what everyone asks about. With the Jayco (about 4,600 lbs dry and roughly 5,600 lbs loaded), I was seeing numbers like 7.7 MPG early on, then around 8.8 MPG later, and my overall average ended up at 8.7 MPG for the tank with most of it being towing. I also talked about why I went gas instead of diesel — I didn’t feel like the markup and extra maintenance (DEF, etc.) made sense for me yet, but I’m leaving the door open to switching later if my needs change. Once we were set up, I showed some of the gear I’m using (like my 30A surge protector), how the awning looks fully extended, and how the trailer did on night one — tankless hot water, heater performance, bunks for the kids, and even the outdoor shower for rinsing feet. We also ran up toward Sequoia National Park, dealt with the gnarly drive, found snow up at Wolverton, and wrapped it all up with a quick trip recap and towing notes for anyone else who’s brand new to trailers like me.
