What’s up YouTube—this video is our first time camping at Fernwood Campground in Big Sur, and I’m giving you a full walkthrough plus my honest opinion. We usually stay at Pfeiffer, but this year we switched it up and ran Fernwood with full hookups. I’ve got my Tacoma loaded (nothing fancy—just my cheap Home Depot bins), and we brought the trailer too. We were in my CVT rooftop tent with the California King mattress, and my family was in their fifth wheel, so you’ll see how it works for tent camping, rooftop tent setups, and RVs all in the same trip. I show you our sites (12 and 13) right on the river, and that’s honestly the big reason this place became my new favorite. The water out front is deep enough to actually swim, float, and let the kids play, and at night you’ve got that super peaceful river sound. I also walk around the campground so you can see where the bathrooms are, the cabins, shaded areas, and what spots get sun in the morning. I also talk Tacoma stuff—my current setup (35s, same suspension), how my MPG did on the 132-mile drive, and a quick note on security after someone tried to steal my tailgate. Fernwood was cheap enough that we already rebooked for next year, and I explain why I like it more than the other Big Sur spot.
