What’s up YouTube—today I’m breaking down the new rear bumper I picked up for my 3rd gen Tacoma: the Outgear Solutions tilted rear bumper. I went with this one for two big reasons: it’s tilted upward so I get way better clearance and departure angle (especially since I’ve got a long bed), and it’s super low profile and lightweight compared to a lot of the bulky steel bumpers out there. I’m not out here rock crawling, so I didn’t need a big kick-out setup, even though Outgear does offer a version with one. This was one of the few mods I didn’t install myself—CBI Built handled the install, and the Outgear owner actually had it sent straight to them which made everything easy. The install involves cutting the rear at an upward angle and bolting the bumper into existing areas, with a couple drill points but nothing crazy—the cutting is the labor-intensive part. Just know what you’re giving up: on my long bed Tacoma I lost blind spot monitoring and the rear parking sensors, plus they had to add new license plate lights to keep it legal. Overall, the truck looks way better from the rear, and next I’m probably cutting the exhaust back to get rid of that hanging tip for even more clearance.
