What’s up YouTube—today I’m installing the RCI lower control arm skid plates on my 2020 Tacoma, and honestly this is a super easy mod that gives you a ton of peace of mind if you’re hitting trails with rocks. I used to run the Running for Tacos LCA skids, but once I got sponsored by TacomaBeast I swapped over, and I’m stoked these RCI skids are black because they match my RCI rear diff skid plate. You don’t really realize how big and heavy these plates are until you pull them out of the box, but once they’re on, they look super clean underneath. I also talk about why skid protection matters beyond just the control arms. I’ve personally busted a pinion seal off-roading after hitting a rock, so I highly recommend a rear diff skid (and don’t forget the pinion cover—I still need to install mine). And if you’re off-road at all, really think about your gas tank too—on these trucks it’s basically protected by flimsy plastic, and that’s a problem if you ever pierce it out in the middle of nowhere with no service. One heads-up: if you’ve got the TRD Pro skid plate setup, RCI notes these LCA skids aren’t compatible, and I had to do some trimming with a Dremel to make mine fit. If you didn’t need to cut anything, this install would be like 10 minutes per side, especially if you drive up on ramps to give yourself room.
