About This Video

In this install video I’m unboxing and throwing on the new AWE exhaust—what they’re calling the first true dual catback for the 3rd gen Tacoma. And just to be clear, “dual” here doesn’t mean one pipe on each side like a Raptor/TRX; it’s two pipes side-by-side, tucked up where the factory routing lives. I went with the high-clearance setup (no tips on mine), but you can get it with 4.5" tips if that’s your style. Packaging was solid, there are a ton of parts and clamps, and everything is labeled (E78, E79, etc.), which makes the whole thing way less confusing once you lay it out. I walk through pulling the stock system (breaker bar was a must on my 2020—Pismo salt and rust made those bolts a fight), popping the rubber hangers, and then installing the AWE pieces step-by-step: dual inlets, H-pipe (curve = driver, flat = passenger), mid muffler, the two mufflers (drain holes down), over-axle tubes, and the final outlet pieces with the AWE logo facing down. No cutting, no modifying—just plug-and-play clamps. Biggest tips: keep clamp bolts positioned where you can actually tighten them, don’t point clamps downward if you off-road, and keep a gap between the muffler faces so you don’t get rattles. AWE calls for 60 ft-lbs minimum; I torqued to about 70 to be safe.
