I got this All-Pro Off-Road gas tank skid plate just in time for my Colorado trip, and honestly that’s exactly why I wanted it—because the last thing I need is to puncture my gas tank on a trail and end up stranded three or four states away from home. The box says it’s about 56 pounds, and yeah, it’s heavy, but it’s 3/16" thick and that’s the whole point: when I hit rocks, I want the skid taking the hit, not my tank. I also didn’t bother powder coating it since you’re never really going to see it under the truck, and I didn’t want to pay a bunch more when this one gets the job done. In the video I walk through the install step-by-step: pulling the factory plastic cover (four bolts), dropping in the two plates/brackets up front, loosely hanging the skid first, and then installing the driver and passenger side brackets. I also call out an important Tacoma detail—TRD Off-Road and TRD Pro models come with studs, but SR5 and Sport don’t, so you may need to buy studs separately. Once everything is lined up, you tighten it all down and you’re good. For about $201 online (plus shipping), I’m really impressed with how solid it is for the price, and it’s one of those mods that’s just peace of mind before a big road trip.
