Is the Donner Pocket Go actually good for under $100?

Yeah—this is one of those “very affordable yet really rather good sounding” bits of kit. For around about 100 bucks, you’re getting amp sims, cab sim, loads of effects, and a battery-powered pocket rig. It’s not pretending to be a flagship unit, but it absolutely does the job.

Does the Donner Pocket Go run on battery and how do you charge it?

It’s battery powered, and you can charge it via USB-C on the back. That’s a big part of the appeal—tiny rig, charge it up, and just go. It’s properly portable, not “portable if you bring a power brick and a prayer.”

Do you need the app to use the Pocket Go?

Accepted Answer

To set everything up, yes, because there’s no screen on the unit. I connect over Bluetooth, then I can swap presets, tweak amps/cabs/effects, and drag the signal chain order around with my finger. Once you’ve saved a few sounds you like, you can basically just use the pedal on its own.

Can you import IRs into the Donner Pocket Go?

Yep—you can import your own IRs through the app, and I did exactly that with a Celestion IR. It was very easy to do, and it’s a nice upgrade if you’ve already got favorite cab IRs. I used an imported Greenback-style option and it worked great in the presets.

What amp models are in the Donner Pocket Go?

There’s a bunch—stuff that looks like a Twin, an AC30-style “UK C30,” Plexi-style options, 5150-ish gain, Mesa-ish clean, Orange-ish “Juice,” and more (plus bass amps too). In the video we mess with the “Juice” for a gainy preset and also do a cranked Twin vibe. It’s a lot of flavors for something that fits in your pocket.

What effects can you get on the Pocket Go?

You’ve got your front-end stuff like boost/comp/gate, then modulation (chorus, phaser, tremolo, flanger, vibrato, univibe, auto filter), plus delays and reverbs. I also show how you can move blocks around—like putting reverb after the cab, or flanging the reverbs by moving flanger to the end. It’s simple, but surprisingly flexible.

Is the Donner Pocket Go built well or does it feel cheap?

Honestly, it feels more substantial than you’d expect. We both clocked it straight away—it’s heavier than you think, and it’s sheet metal, not plastic. For a budget Donner unit, that was a nice surprise.
