About This Video

Today I dug into some more old-school DigiTech goodness: the early-2000s X-Series DigiVerb (yes, the one in that very “Digi blue bluey” enclosure). This isn’t sponsored—this pedal isn’t even made anymore—I just collect this stuff and thought it’d be fun to see if the DigiVerb still hangs with modern reverbs. Spoiler: it absolutely does. I ran it in stereo into a UAFX Ruby and straight into Logic so you can hear the reverb as clean and “straight” as possible. I walked through all the modes with everything set to noon: Room, Plate, Hall, Church, Gated, Reverse, and Spring. The big takeaway is how usable the controls are—especially the EQ knob, which only affects the reverb tail and stays in a sweet spot (it doesn’t get painfully bright or weirdly dark). The Room surprised me the most because it genuinely holds up against the Ruby’s room vibe, and the Plate and Church sounds are just lovely—Church in particular has that “sounds like an album” thing going on when you tuck the tail back. We also tried the DigiVerb’s built-in speaker/cab sim by powering it up in the special mode. It made the direct signal feel less painfully direct, and it works even when the pedal is bypassed (but you can’t permanently save it). Overall: if you find one cheap, it’s still a seriously good-sounding reverb by today’s standards.
