What is the Wettmar Electric Legacy System #01 pedal?

It’s a fuzz at the heart of it, but it’s stacked with options: a gate, blendable sub octaves (one or two down), an upper voice (unison / octave up / two octaves up), and multiple modulation paths. On top of that, there’s a MALFUNC section that adds ring/voice/sub modulation you can blend in. It looks like a box of knobs, but it’s really just a few sections you mix together.

Does the Legacy System #01 have a gate, and what does it do?

Yep — there’s a dedicated gate control right in the main fuzz section. As you turn it, you go from open sustain to that tight, splatty “snorts” cutoff thing. If you want it to clamp down hard, you can get “the most gating you can gate.”

How do the sub octaves work on the Legacy System #01?

Accepted Answer

You can blend in either one octave down or two octaves down, and there’s a level knob just for that sub voice. It’s not meant to be a super clean octave — it’s part of the fuzz/synth vibe. I actually liked the two octaves down a lot, especially higher up the neck where you get that big jump.

What’s the difference between Glide and Animate on this pedal?

Accepted Answer

Glide is more like an envelope-ish synth slide where the extra voice sort of ramps in — very “real synth thing.” Animate swaps that out for an LFO, so the voice gets modulated with selectable wave shapes (up ramp, down ramp, sine, random/sample-hold-ish) and a rate control. It can be subtle, or you can go extremes and make it properly obvious.

What does the MALFUNC (malfunction) section do?

MALFUNC is basically extra modulation you sprinkle on top — and yes, if a switch says malfun, you have to use it. It offers ring modulation, voice modulation, or sub modulation via a 3-way switch, and you blend the amount in. Ring mod gets wild fast; sub modulation is the more subtle option.

Is the Legacy System #01 good for lower tunings and doom/stoner fuzz tones?

Accepted Answer

Totally — fuzzers tend to live in their natural habitat with lower tuning, so we also ran it with a guitar in D standard. The fuzz itself is cool, and the lower octave blend is a big part of why it gets into that doom/synth-fuzz territory quickly. Then you can push it over the cliff with the extra modulation if you want.

What gear did you use in the video to demo the Legacy System #01?

Accepted Answer

I ran a Yamaha into a Ceriatone Creme Brulee, then into a Two Notes Torpedo Captor X. We also talked about trying a different mic (AKG C151) and asked folks to tell us how it compares to what we used last year. The point was keeping the rig consistent so you can hear what the pedal is doing.
