In this part of my dream horse barn build, I’m finally finishing out the new barn room—my pet utility room—and I’m honestly so proud of how it turned out. We already had the structure and exterior walls up, so this video is all about making it a real, working room: staining the tongue-and-groove, finishing the ceiling, tiling over the concrete, grouting, and then trimming everything out with baseboards, window trim, door casing, corner trim, and what I’m calling our “crown” trim. It was one of those projects where it feels a little daunting (tile is slow, and yes, my stain order got delayed and damaged), but once it starts coming together, it feels so worth it. I wanted the floor to still look like concrete but be easier to clean, so I went with a tile that keeps that vibe. The trim is simple 1x4 pine because it’s a barn and a dog utility room—I didn’t want anything too crazy—but the window trim ended up being my favorite part because it made everything look finished and meaningful. We also insulated the ceiling from up top, and once all the gaps were sealed, the mini split actually made it really cold in there (in the best way). By the end, I installed a heavy-duty locking door handle (keyed), and we’re officially done with our first completed barn room—next up is the tack room, and I cannot wait to show you what we’re doing in there.
