This wash rack build was honestly such an afterthought that turned into a full-blown “wait… this looks like we planned it” project. I’m building out my new dream horse barn, and in Part 7 I show you how we turned a 12x12 area under the lean-to on the left side of the barn into a dedicated (but still super flexible) horse wash rack. We spray-painted it out, got it concreted, and then framed it in with fencing—because that fence is also going to tie into our pig pen pasture, so it needed to make sense for the whole layout. Once the pad and fence were done, the next big thing was water. We tapped into the same plumbing we’re already using for the pigs, ran it through where Mike drilled, and added a clean-looking faucet that matches the barn hardware. From there, it was all about making it functional but also keeping it tidy—because hoses get crazy fast, and I want this barn to stay nice and clean. I added a wash rack boom that swivels 180° so I can easily get around a horse while bathing, and then my favorite upgrade: a retractable Aquor hose reel that also swivels flat against the barn. It’s simple, efficient, and it keeps everything stowed away so nothing is sticking out where a horse could bump into it. The wash rack is officially complete, and I’m obsessed with how it turned out.
