The D1 uses a Thin Ply Carbon Diaphragm and is the first time used on a Dynamic Driver headphone. I've had a very positive experience with the D1 and would like to share my thoughts. About This Video

Hey, what’s cracking everyone—this video is my full experience with the HEDDphone D1, HEDD’s first step away (for now) from their AMT driver stuff and into a world-first dynamic driver setup using a Thin Ply Carbon Diaphragm (TPCD). It’s an open-back, $799 headphone that I’ve had in-house for weeks, and I walk you through the unbox/build, comfort, and why the tech here is genuinely interesting. Build-wise it’s a polished, high-end Sennheiser-type vibe: plastic/metal/steel, dual 3.5mm cup connections, velour pads, and it comes with a molded case (plus some pad-cleaning tape in production units). At ~350g, it’s light, comfy, and the clamp is “just right” for me. Sound is where the D1 really hooked me. The big theme is smoothness, but with an analytical edge—fast transients and a kinda “planaresque” speed without that unnatural planar presentation. Bass has solid extension with a bit of sub-bass drop-off, but the sustain keeps it from feeling empty; mid-bass slam is the star. Mids are neutral-but-engaging with rounded upper-mid attack, and treble is airy yet forgiving—great if you’re treble sensitive. I also cover amp synergy (yes, it scales), gaming performance thanks to the wide stage, and comparisons versus the HiFiMAN Audivina (“Dalia”) and Meze 105 AER. At this price, it’s a slam dunk for my preferences and competes with stuff above $1K.
