About This Video

Good morning from a very sleepy Scotland. In this Vlogmas part, I’m trying to find a bit of calm in the chaos—starting with a cup of tea, a hot water bottle, and the relief of blue skies after a stormy, dark day. I chat about my week, including a really lovely volunteer session at Falkland Palace (I’m a garden volunteer with the National Trust for Scotland) where we made Christmas wreaths. It was such a nice way to catch up with people I don’t often see, and we even went for lunch after—steak pie included—which honestly felt like my version of a work Christmas do. I also talk books (I finished An Island Christmas and appreciated how much more realistic it felt than a lot of overly-sweet festive novels), and I’m giving myself a bit of a pep talk about wasting time scrolling. I share little updates on my second Sophie scarf—so close to finishing—and how strange December feels now my son is 16 and the calendar is suddenly… empty. So I’m making my own cosy plans: a few favourite Christmas films, little home touches like my cross stitch on the mantel, and overwintering pelargoniums indoors for winter colour. To round the day off, I have a proper faff with decorations and treats (After Eights are basically my advent calendar), and I make ā€œChristmas dinner subsā€ with brie, chicken, pigs in blankets, stuffing, cranberry sauce, and gravy—hoping my teenager approves.
