About This Video

It’s Vlogmas 4, and I’m spending a properly cosy Christmas weekend at home with all my favourite bits: a walk (even though I had to kick myself out the door), an audiobook in my ears because it was very urban and noisy, and then a really comforting afternoon pottering about. I listened to The Killer’s Christmas List and, thankfully, it threw in a nice juicy twist—because you know I cannot be doing with predictable books. Back home, I made garlic mushrooms on sourdough for lunch, then got stuck into a festive mushroom Wellington-style filling with chestnuts, onion, garlic, sage and thyme (plus walnuts and even a few pumpkin seeds just because). The key is frying it off so it doesn’t go soggy, and I also added a teaspoon of miso for that umami flavour. I had a proper jigsaw afternoon too—picked a tricky snowy Borton-on-the-Water one (the water and sky are going to be hard!), and I shared my very glamorous reality of sliding my puzzle board under the sofa… while Tilly tries to steal pieces in the night. The next day was ulog day. I’ve been making my yule log for at least 10 years, and even when the sponge cracks, you just trust the process—because it all gets covered in chocolate buttercream and a dusting of icing sugar anyway. It ended up looking brilliant, and it was exactly the kind of quiet, cosy weekend I needed.
