Nano Banana 2 is officially out, and I ran it through real tests to see what actually changed (speed, quality, and cost). In this video I show how to access Nano Banana 2 for free inside the Gemini app (gemini.google.com) and how I’m using the Nano Banana 2 API through kai.ai so you can plug it into automation workflows (and bulk generation) instead of iterating one image at a time in Gemini. The headline upgrades are legit: it’s faster in general, supports up to 14 images at once, can use Google Web search while generating, and it’s cheaper than the previous Pro model. Then I stress-tested it on practical use cases: translating the back of a vintage George Washington card from German to English (translation worked, but matching the original font/layout was a limitation), generating Instagram-style product shots from a rough photo, restoring a heavily damaged baseball card, and building YouTube thumbnail variations from a webcam shot. My biggest takeaway: Nano Banana 2 can produce incredible results (the 1K restoration was honestly shocking), but I saw more hallucinations than I expected—duplicate grades, competitor logos (SGC vs CGC), and extra elements I didn’t ask for. Also, in my testing, 1K sometimes beat 2K/4K, which is the opposite of what people usually claim.
