If you’ve been using Claude in the browser, you’ve only seen about half of what it can actually do. In this full course, I walk you through Claude Cowork—Anthropic’s desktop AI agent that can open files on your computer, edit and create documents, do research, build reports, and chain multi-step tasks together while you step away. We start by positioning Cowork against regular Claude chat (great, but everything stays in the conversation window) and Claude Code (more developer/terminal oriented). Cowork is the bridge: the same kind of power, but built for non-developers who want real desktop automation without living in a terminal. From there, I cover installation and setup (yes, Windows is now supported), plus the real caveats: you need a paid plan, you’ll hit daily limits faster than chat, there’s no memory between sessions, nothing syncs across devices, and the app has to stay open while tasks run. Then we get serious about security and privacy—what stays local, what gets sent through the API, why Anthropic says not to use Cowork for regulated workloads, and how prompt injections can bite you if you aim it at sensitive data. Finally, I show how I set up global instructions and folder-level instructions using a claude.md file, so Cowork behaves consistently and safely across projects—especially client work.
