In this video I do a quick, less-polished “layman’s review” of the LG UltraFine 6K (32U990A-S). I’m expecting my first child this week, so I didn’t script this like I normally do, but I still wanted to get my thoughts out—especially because I really wanted to love this monitor. The unboxing is great, packaging is solid, and LG includes a Thunderbolt 5 cable plus a massive 360W power brick (your lights don’t dim when you turn it on). It gets super bright, colors in actual video content look terrific, and it powers on fast—more like the Pro Display XDR than the ASUS ProArt 6K. But I can’t ignore the big issue I’m seeing: color consistency on white backgrounds. On my unit, whites show obvious blue tinting around parts of the perimeter (a “blue halo”), and for a $2,000 monitor that’s just hard to justify—especially when a cheap $250 LG I’ve had since 2020 doesn’t do that. I also talk about the more aggressive matte coating (you can see the texture up close), the stand being stiff to adjust compared to the Pro Display XDR, and a vertical banding effect at angles. If it weren’t for the blue spots, I’d recommend this display in a heartbeat.
