About This Video

Here’s tip number 11 in my 2026 tips: share what you know. In plain English, that means teach. Teaching is a great way to learn something—if you really want to master an idea on the guitar, you’ve got to explain it to somebody else and put it into words. There are players out there who would love to know what you already know, and when you show them those “special little things,” it does something important: it makes room for you to learn more. A lot of players hoard their secrets, but I’ve never found that to help anybody. Give it away. When you do, you end up organizing your information better, and you understand it deeper. And here’s the funny part: a lot of times the student becomes the teacher. They ask you a question and you realize, “Wow, I’ve got to dig for that answer,” and you learn because of it. So how do you find those people? Start a guitar club—at your church, a community center, anywhere. Do some group lessons, group playing, watch a video, read some articles, and share a few things. Or just post an ad. It doesn’t have to become a business; a handful of students is plenty. Go find a few guys that want to know what you know, and you’ll be a lot happier.
