In this livestream I feature a late-’90s Guild X-150 Savoy made in Westerly, Rhode Island—single pickup, and harder to find than the dual-pickup or floating-pickup versions. I’m telling you straight: this is the nicest one I’ve ever had my hands on. It’s basically brand new—no fret wear, bone nut, beautiful flamed maple laminate, lacquer finish, and it just feels “right” the second you grab it. I play it acoustically, then direct, and then I run it through a couple different amp options (Henriksen, Quilter, and combinations) so you can hear how the guitar reacts. I also talk through what I actually did to set it up—my strings (13–48 flats), a little hydration on the board and bridge, and I had to drill the bridge a bit so I could get the action low (you know me… I like it so low you breathe on it and it frets). We also get into some real-world jazz guitar stuff: “East of the Sun” (melody, chords, and how to improvise by messing with the melody), a question-of-the-day on strings for jazz vs blues/rock, and some shop talk about guitars moving in and out during our big sale.
