Welcome to another Live Jazz Guitar Hang from Atascadero—where “cold” is 47 degrees and I’ve got the hand warmer on high because one finger likes to go numb. In this stream I’m digging into a super old Gibson archtop: an ES-150 that’s somewhere between a ’46 and a ’49. The label’s gone, the number’s carved in the headstock (4670), and I don’t lose sleep over it—what matters is how the guitar feels, how the pickup responds, and whether it gives you that classic jazz voice when you actually play it. We also do what we always do on these hangs: talk shop, tell a few stories, and keep it real about learning jazz. I throw out the “question of the day” about what made you want to learn jazz guitar, and we get the usual great answers—Wes Montgomery, Charlie Parker, Steely Dan as the gateway drug, school jazz band, and hearing the real thing live. I also talk about our weekly student support Zoom (Thursdays), and I try to demo the Vidami foot controller—because anything that lets you slow down and loop lessons without taking your hands off the guitar is a big deal (even if the livestream tech gremlins show up).
