Hey you guys—welcome to the Guitar Hang from 1/21/26. We kicked things off the way live streams go sometimes: a little “freaking technology,” a strap that decides to quit at the worst possible moment, and me trying to not touch the stream deck because I know it’ll screw us up. Then we got right into it: I played “Sugar” (I love that tune—old stable that just works), and I laid out what we’re doing today—tunes, Q&A, Name That Tune, and a three-octave chromatic scale. A big chunk of this hang is archtop talk and real-world player stuff. I showed three Heritage guitars and compared what makes them different—especially the big Super Eagle-style body and how it sits (yeah it’s big, but the neck ends up closer to your nose, and it actually works out). I also answered my “question of the day”: how often to change strings. My rule is simple—don’t change them just because the calendar says so. I watch for buzzing from neck tension changes, dead tone that sneaks up on you, intonation going bad (that’ll drive you nuts), and that floppy feel. If those boxes aren’t checked, I’m not spending my life changing strings.
