About This Video

In this Guitar Tip #2 for 2026, I’m talking about something that sounds simple, but it’s a big deal if you want consistent progress: create a happy place to practice. Tip #1 was “prepare, plan, execute, and journal your practice session,” and this one supports that by making it easy to start. When your space is already set up, you don’t waste time hunting for gear or getting distracted—you just sit down and play. I want your practice area ready to go: guitar right there, tuner, picks, strap, music stand, comfortable chair, and your practice journal. And yes—use a music stand. Studies show you’re more productive when the music is right in front of you at eye level, not down in your lap where you’re cranking your neck and putting pressure on it. I personally like a really comfortable chair (I even use a nail salon chair). Add good lighting, and make it a place you actually enjoy being—album covers, pictures, whatever makes it feel inviting. One more thing: add a clock or timer, and watch your humidity if the guitar’s on a stand—around 40% is a nice level. Make it so you can be tuned up and ready in one minute: boom, you practice.
