So I had an idea: what if I try to assemble the most technologically advanced, futuristic backpacking setup… and then actually take it on a real 2‑day hike in central Italy (Upperan Mountains) to see what’s useful and what’s just expensive hiking nonsense. I tested everything on-trail—an exoskeleton that literally pushes your legs forward, a hiking solar panel, a UV water purifier for sketchy water, GPS watch + satellite messenger, an inflatable tent, a bear electric fence, ultralight power banks, a tiny pump, heated clothing, and some night gadgets. The big surprise was the Hypershell exoskeleton: on steep climbs my heart rate was way lower than usual, and it genuinely felt like someone was pushing me uphill. The solar panel worked… but only in real sun (shade was basically 0–1W). Food-wise, the Huel Black Edition meal replacement was brutal (3/10), but the Huel Hot & Savoury dehydrated meal was honestly one of the best I’ve ever had (10/10) and it’s only about €4. At the end I rated everything. Some stuff is overkill for normal trips, but a few items—like a good GPS watch, a powerful flashlight, and the tiny pump—are the kind of gear that once you use it, it’s hard to go back.
