Read-aloud time is genuinely our favourite part of our homeschool day, so in this video I’m sharing the top 10 family read-alouds we’ve loved over the last six months with Isla (almost 5) and Iris (2.5). I filmed this while we’re summer holidaying in Scotland (so you might hear little ones in the background!), and I chose books that really stood out—the ones the girls asked for, the ones that sparked conversation, and the ones that even my husband Laurel enjoyed sitting down for. I talk through a mix of classic chapter books and series that work beautifully for a Montessori homeschooling rhythm—one or two chapters in the morning, and another one or two at night. Some of our absolute highlights were Little House (which somehow captured all of us as a family), Enid Blyton (I do allow fantasy in books, and I love how it opens up moral conversations), E.B. White (Charlotte’s Web is a repeat favourite), Alice in Wonderland, The Chronicles of Narnia (for its beautiful writing and Christian themes), Winnie the Pooh chapter books, Roald Dahl, Babe: The Gallant Pig, The Velveteen Rabbit, and Mary Poppins. I also share a few books we’re excited to read next, including Kate DiCamillo and Dr Dolittle.
